STAR OF THE WEST SPORTS COMPLEX

With eight softball fields and seven lacrosse fields, the Star of the West Complex really shines. Built along the banks of Rapid Creek on the east side of Rapid City, this facility has become a mecca for softball and lacrosse tournaments alike. Softball is most prolific here in Rapid City amongst adults and youth girls. With all eight lighted softball fields lying in a circular pattern with concessions and playgrounds central to the complex, the facility is very convenient for hosting adult and youth tournaments. The five lacrosse & soccer fields are used year round for youth and adult sports. The Star of the West anchors the east end of the Rapid City Greenway pedestrian corridor that provides a bike / walkway along Rapid Creek.

This 58 acre multimillion dollar sports complex remains a popular  venue for many regional tournaments each year in Rapid City.

​Wyss Associates, Inc was retained in 2023 by the City of Rapid City Parks Department to re-design the irrigation system for the softball complex.  Construction began in September 2024 and will be completed in the Spring of 2025. Project includes HDPE piping (from the backflow to swing arm), and new cloud based irrigation central control system. The communication system utilizes 2-wire decoders for ease of expansion and communication to central control.
