RAPID CITY DOWNTOWN STREETSCAPES (MULTIPLE PROJECTS)

Wyss Associates, Inc. has designed many of the enhanced streetscapes in downtown Rapid City. As landscape architect on the downtown Kansas City Street reconstruction, we set the local standard for quality appearance and function for a modern street design in Rapid City.

The Rapid City Downtown streetscape improvements include introducing nodes for traffic calming and pedestrian safety, furnishings, bicycle lanes, attractive lighting, decorative paving and landscaping while providing an appealing and unique access to the many different store fronts. Other enhanced streets include Sixth Street in downtown, Omaha Street medians from East Boulevard to Eleventh Street and Mt Rushmore Road from Tower Road to St Joseph Street.

Our team also incorporated sustainable infrastructure into the downtown improvements as well including rain gardens to capture runoff and filter the storm water into the landscape.

Additional design features were integrated into the downtown street plan including pedestrian and vehicular wayfinding, lighting enhancements, street furniture, landscaping, sidewalk extensions that accommodates on-street dining and entertainment.
