KNOLLWOOD AREA PARK
RAPID CITY, SD
Knollwood Area Park is a 16.8 Acre parcel of land in north Rapid City that is currently utilized as an off-leash dog park with passive use. The park functions as a detention basin for storm water runoff & contains designated wetlands.
The space is currently used as a through route for pedestrians and has potential as a neighborhood park providing the community to engage in outdoor recreation and meet their neighbors to deepen a sense of
community identity and care.
Selected by the City in 2023, Wyss Associates worked with the parks staff and the community to develop the concept plan. The plan provides vital elements of security and access while balancing the
aesthetic needs to in-still a sense of pride and ownership in the neighborhood. The wetland nature of the site is featured as an amenity & learning opportunity. Plantings are provided to give a formal landscape presence to the park that indicates care and longevity. Lighting is included along the path to provide a luminated safe walking path for the users. Other highlights of the plan include introducing 2 small playgrounds, one for 2–5-year-old children & another area for 5–12-year-olds, a small park shelter, small seasonal restroom, a full court basketball court, Gaga Ball courts, entry level disc golf course, & smaller open space lawns for field play.
