Wyss Associates provided landscape design services for the Visitor Services Area and Amphitheater complex in conjunction with DHM Design. Our Landscape and planting plan incorporated indigenous plant materials and boulders into the existing landscape with minimal impact on the existing Pine ecosystem.

The Presidential Trail – located along the base of Mt. Rushmore allows visitors to experience the sculpture like never before. The trail protects the existing mature Ponderosa Pines, Aspens and boulders. The wooden boardwalk trail consists of recycled lumber for its deck surface, and is elevated to minimize impact to the forest floor.

The Mount Rushmore Parking Facility provides a landscape pedestrian way separating the two terraced parking structures. The design uses primarily indigenous plant material, large boulders and serpentine walks to help soften the parking structures and blend them into the surrounding primary Landscape Architects on this project and has been a member of all design teams since 1990, after others prepared the original Master Plan.
