There are approximately twenty cemeteries on the Comstock in and around Virginia City, Nevada and Gold Hill, Nevada dating as far back as 1859. Wyss Associates, Inc. completed a Preservation Master Plan for these historic cultural landscapes.

The Preservation Master Plan was completed in July of 2003 and will provide a comprehensive plan for preserving the valuable historic fabric of the cemeteries on the Comstock. The following issues were addressed in the Preservation Master Plan:

• Marker preservation
• Iron and wood fence preservation
• Erosion control
• Pathway reestablishment
• Vegetative management
• Preservation demonstration plots
• Interpretive opportunities
• Irrigation needs

This plan will guide preservation efforts in the cemeteries far into the future and preserve these important cultural landscapes for future generations.
